State of the Sector

We are delighted to share the news that the 2021 State of the Sector survey is now live!

Community Energy Wales is inviting community organisations from across Wales, who are working on low carbon projects to respond to this survey!

CEW has received funding from the Welsh Government to deliver a standalone State of the Sector report for Wales. This is a really significant step and will help us to respond to and represent the needs of the sector in Wales. We are working in collaboration with Community Energy England and Community Energy Scotland to deliver this as all the information you provide will also feed into a UK wide report that can be used to support our collective work to represent our sector across the UK.

State of the Sector is the most comprehensive dataset about the community energy sector. This year there are some exciting changes to the survey and resulting reports. Community Energy England and Community Energy Wales are working with Community Energy Scotland to open up the survey to include Scottish groups to ensure that an even more robust UK-wide evidence base is provided for why policy makers and other stakeholders should support and engage with community energy. There will be a standalone Welsh state of the sector report, funded by Welsh Government, to explore in more detail community energy activity in Wales.

The data will be used to assess the wide range of impacts that community energy organisations are having in the journey to net zero carbon. The results will be analysed and shared in a UK wide report, as well as a report on the State of the Sector in Wales (thanks to funding by the Welsh Government) to be launched later in the spring.

Previous reports have been used by local and national government, network operators, MPs, campaigning and environmental organisations, and many other organisations within the sector itself. The data underpins the work of Community Energy England, Scotland and Wales to support the sector and lobby for more supportive policies. We need your input to continue this impact. Responses you provide this year will be added to previous years’ data to form a comprehensive picture of the progress and impact of the incredible work happening across the community energy sector. This will allow the State of the Sector Report to once again educate and influence policy makers and sector stakeholders.

We would like to hear from every community energy organisation involved in low carbon activities across the whole of the UK.

We want to hear about all of the projects you have been working on up to the end of 2020, including for example, electricity and heat generation, energy storage, low carbon transport, energy efficiency, demand management/flexibility services, fuel poverty services and any other low carbon initiatives.

You can reply to the survey here.

The survey will be open until 6pm on Wednesday 14 April.

This year the survey is being conducted by Regen. If you have any questions, please contact Prina (psumaria@regen.co.uk)
