Charge UP Wales

Community Energy Wales have received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to set up the first ever Wales-wide community car club. This project will set up an EV Car club network for Wales including 7 new community owned car clubs and link up other existing community run car clubs. During the consultation period CEW and partners identified a real need for an integrated approach across Wales, linking with other organisations and community developments is therefore a key focus of Charge Up Wales.

The market is failing to deliver low-cost sustainable transport in rural areas, and we are facing a climate emergency and must transport people in a more sustainable way. All new cars will need to be electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030 if not before. This will help tackle issues around rural isolation and access to services for people living in rural areas and on low incomes.

Wales Network: Our approach will create a compatible and integrated network that could be replicated and expanded, creating an effective long term, sustainable impact. By building the capacity of local people and making them part of a Wales wide network we will enable them to share their experiences, learn from one another and support further growth in this area.

The community organisations and other partners to deliver the project are:
